The Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus is in rehearsals for the final concert of its 35th anniversary season, One Hit Wonders: A Sing-A-Long! With performances on Thursday, June 1 and Friday, June 2 both at 8:00 p.m., this concert will be the perfect way to kick off your summer. Fun 60’s tunes? Check. Fierce 70’s disco? Check. 80’s pop, 90’s rock, and techno realness from today? Check, check, check! Featuring many chorus soloists, One Hit Wonders: A Sing-A-Long is sure to have you singing in your seats and dancing down the aisles. It’s like karaoke meets those one hit wonders you just can’t forget – the only difference? You’ll experience it in surround sound, 120 voices strong! Don’t worry about rehearsing because we’ve got that covered. Lyrics will be displayed so you can shout and sing in all your glory.
We bet you’re already wondering – what songs PGMC are going to sing? Here’s a bit of trivia for three of our songs:
This 80’s pop gem has earned millions through advertisements, covered by Dolly Parton, and was mashed up for an episode of Glee. (But then, what song hasn’t?)
Katrina and The Waves, “Walking On Sunshine”
This video for this 1990 dance hit begins with the lead singer dressed in fake fur, speaking fake French, and asking, “How do you say de-groovy?”
Deee-Lite, “Groove Is In The Heart”
The singer from this late 80’s dance hall jam got his start as lead singer for the androgynous proto-punk band, New York Dolls.
Buster Poindexter, “Hot Hot Hot”
