Artistic Director - Joseph J. Buches

    Joseph J. Buches was appointed the Artistic Director of the Philadelphia Gay Men's Chorus in September 2004.

Mr. Buches received a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from West Chester University, West Chester PA, where he studied voice with Dr. Raymond Friday.  At Mansfield University, Mansfield, PA, Mr. Buches studied voice with Kim L. Renas, Jack Wilcocks and Jolene Jeffers, and organ with Dr. Kent Hill.

He has done extensive graduate work in conducting at Mansfield University under Dr. Peggy Dettwiler and at Westminster Choir College under Dr. James Jordan. Mr. Buches has also done extensive study in the field of Music Technology through the University of the Arts at Villanova University.

Mr. Buches has served as the Director of Choral Music at The Episcopal Academy in Merion, PA since 1998.  Mr. Buches was appointed Chair of the Music Department in 2000. Mr. Buches also serves as organist and music director at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Unionville, PA. He has also served as adjunct vocal music faculty member at Penn State University, Delaware County Campus.

Mr. Buches has performed as a core singer with the Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia, under the direction of Alan Harler, as well as featured soloist with local area choruses.

Mr. Buches holds professional memberships with the American Choral Directors' Association, the National Association for Music Educators, and Pennsylvania Music Educator's Association.

Collaborative Pianist - Bonnie Wagner

Bonnie Wagner was appointed Collaborative Accompanist for the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus in February of 2006.

Ms. Wagner is originally from Los Altos, California. Her work experience includes coaching vocalists, playing chamber music and teaching piano lessons.

Ms. Wagner has significant performance experience as a collaborative pianist. She has appeared as a chamber musician in the Eastman in Geneva Series in New York, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the Brevard College Chamber Music Series in North Carolina, the Hill and Hollow Chamber Music Festival in Saranac, New York, and the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara. She currently works with local opera companies including New Jersey Opera Theater and Opera Company of Philadelphia.

In the summer of 2005 she produced and accompanied a small chamber music series in Philadelphia called Center City Chamber Recitals. She served as a Fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center under the direction of James Levine during their summer 2006 and 2007 seasons.

Ms. Wagner is on faculty at the Curtis Institute as a Vocal Studies Pianist. She also works regularly as a vocal coach and accompanist at West Chester University and her home studio.

Ms. Wagner studied at the University of Michigan, from which she holds a Masters of Music in Chamber Music and Accompanying and a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance. Her primary teachers include Martin Katz, Katherine Collier, Logan Skelton, and Janet Smith.
