Community Outreach
Empowering LGBTQ+ Youth
Through Music
The PGMC’s youth outreach & engagement program is central to the chorus’ mission. In 2014, the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus partnered with community organizations to perform outreach concerts in local schools, fostering understanding and personal growth in our teenage audiences.
Since then, we have reached over 13,000 students at dozens of local high schools and universities. We continue to support the LGBTQ+ community and empower young people by providing them with an opportunity to enter into a safe and affirming environment free from the threat of harm regardless of how they self-identify.
Support our Outreach Program
A portion of all the money earned through our fundraising efforts supports our outreach program, including outreach concerts, complimentary concert tickets for local youth, and smaller workshops and events that bring our members and LGBTQ+ youth and allies together.
PGMC has been acknowledged for their outreach efforts, and was awarded the Delaware Valley Legacy Fund’s Non-Profit Hero Award in 2017.
I think it's important for people to know that the gay choral movement wasn't started so we could sing "I am what I am" in four part harmony. Our friends were dying. We had no political power. They all wanted us dead. We sang to give strength to our friends. To demand medicine, research, any kind of humanitarian aid. We changed the world with our voices.
