OUT OF DARKNESS, WE SING

Friday, March 13th at 8pm

Saturday, March 14th at 4pm

Independence Seaport Museum Theatre

In times of injustice, music becomes more than art — it becomes voice, memory, and resistance. Seven Last Words of the Unarmed by Joel Thompson anchors tonight’s program, lifting the final words of unarmed Black men into powerful, choral testimony. Alongside works of resilience and protest, the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus affirms the strength of communities that refuse to be silenced.

Out of Darkness, We Sing emerges at a time when the rights, dignity, and safety of marginalized people are once again under attack. From anti-Black violence and rising homophobia and transphobia, to the erosion of civil rights and the spread of hateful rhetoric, we stand at a crossroads. In the face of fear and division, we sing to unify, to amplify, and to resist.

This concert is both a reckoning and a rallying cry — a reminder that progress is not a guarantee, and that our voices, joined together, can break through the silence. Tonight, we honor the lives lost, celebrate the strength of those who persist, and recommit ourselves to the fight for justice in all its forms.
